Jump starting another car is probably one of the most straightforward things you can do to fix a car when the battery is dead, but you have to know how to do so safely, first. First, you need to make sure that both ignitions are switched off entirely before attaching any cables.
Hook the first red clip to the positive rod on your battery; you can find these easily by looking for a POS marking or the + symbol. The other red clip is then attached to the positive side of the opposite battery. You'll then take one of the black cables and affix it to the battery's negative rod.
